They moved in on Friday night, and we met 4 of 'em on Saturday!

Eelaka, Rebecca's dog, was our pass, as Angel, myself, Rebecca, her friend Brian, & Avi ran into "a cute girl, a fraternity-style beach bum, a black guy, & a gay guy" half a block past 3rd & Arch on 3rd St., with the filming crew in tow. They loved the dog, and we chatted with them for a couple minutes... first sighting!

-HAPPY MAY!!!

-OUTSTANDING: FEZtival is on a FRIDAY this year, & check out the lineup!!!

-Holy cow, it's been awhile! House Party has happened, my job's going well, the apartment is kickin', and the weather's beautiful! Angel & I are excited about partying out in the city with The Real World, and no more coat checks and freezing walks.

-In the meantime, check out the fabulousness of Angel's picture web site to see what we've been up to

Real World: Philly... here it comes!!

Why tall people should not dance, part 10

Party up, Otium!

With a so-called Chicago Bear & Vic @ Emerald City

-If anyone has the Super Bowl picture that was on www.965online.com, let me know!!

-Well, since I last updated this site, the Osama "virus-like game" (a link to a news article, NOT the game, you goofball!) has infiltrated IM, and caused thousands of IM-stalkers to be discovered... "Who the hell is that? And how do they have my screenname?!"

-I should've put this link up a long time ago... thanks to Trent Gaugler: "The Funniest German Safety Forklift Video EVER"

-Well, Kim has moved to Arizona, and started her new job... :-( Good luck to her!

-Check out her NEW LOOK

-Dylan needs to lose 50 pounds to get into Naval Officer School in Florida... good luck to him!!

-Super Bowl Party: "The Neighbors"

-Super Bowl Party: "The Scene"

-Super Bowl Party: "The Game-Winning Field Goal"

-Well, the loft is done (pictures soon), at least for now... next chore is to get this web site up to speed! 'Til then, here are a few little pics...

@ Tiki Bob's, with our new friend Matt (lives next to where Real World: Philly cast is gonna live)

@ Tiki Bob's again, a week later... PKP represent

Philly Auto Show

-The reason this site has been so poorly updated is because of a little "probably six hour" construction project, a loft, that has now taken the better part of 3 weeks... while it WILL be worth the effort, my life will be a little more together" once the mattresses on the floor, piles of sawdust, tarp, and ladder-stairway are gone

-That's a real shame about those Eagles... no worries, the Super Bowl party plans rock on!

-Bucknell Club of Philadelphia Happy Hour today, Thursday January 15th!! McGillins Pub in Philadelphia, on Drury St., 6-8pm!!!

-HUGE Birds game today! Go Eagles!!!

-It's almost SUPER BOWL TIME!!!

-Last nite (Sat., 1.10), hit up Suede Lounge, on Market Street in Old City... hip place, good atmosphere, great music, and the couches are made of... suede. And if a Tiki Bob's bartender goes there for her Saturday night off, it must be the place to be!

-Well, Angel's back from Puerto Rico, so Apt. 119 is once again running fully-staffed

-HAPPY NEW YEAR!

-Angel is in Puerto Rico until January 4th, which will either mean craziness, or lack thereof...

-Who's doing what for New Years? Apartment 119 (starting at McFadden's?) is open for business!

-MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

-Lots of entertaining little anecdotes/stories coming soon... here's one: Pete Mishler accidentally left his cell phone on the counter of a store he was leaving in Boston. When he came back to get it, a bum had it, and wouldn't give it back unless Pete gave him $1. Disgusted, and because of principle, Pete refused, so his parents had to cough up $100 for him to get a new cell phone

-HERE ARE DIRECTIONS TO OUR PLACE, FROM ALL DIRECTIONS

-Moving-in has begun! Decent first weekend, slow but steady moving-in... tomorrow (Monday the 15th) is the big day, as the U-Haul arrives... Monday Night Football, and the 19th & 20th, "Opening Weekend" parties

-Things learned so far: besides my 2 profile lessons, we've also learned there is great water pressure in the shower, and that the only place to get food at 3am, within walking distance, is the gas station near Delilah's Den, at 2nd & Spring Garden, which brings all KINDS of interesting people to it at that hour!

-Dec. 12: Chamber of Commerce party was a fun and productive time... QCI party tonight... apartment phase-in mini-move-in this weekend... who's partying at Apartment 119 tomorrow night?!

-2 holiday parties in a row: today, Thursday the 11th is the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party. An excuse to party, on a Thursday night? Rats!

-SUPER BOWL XXXVIII PARTY --> Sunday, February 1, 2004... invites, plans, & details coming soon!!

-Quizno's GRAND OPENING was today! I should've taken pictures or something. My office got 8 subs! And with the coupons (get yours today! good 'til Dec. 24th!), we saved $20! It was BUSY, and the day (as far as I know) was a huge success, and went off without any huge hitches!

-Move-in plans are coming along well! With any luck, the apartment will have a bed, a TV, a bar, & an entertainment center in it by Saturday night! Kegerator's still in the pipeline...

-BIG NEWS! Our leasing agent, Nancy Marconi, HOOKED US UP! We are now getting the key to our apartment this coming FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19th!! After my holiday party (below) Friday night, Apartment 119 will be OPEN FOR ALL PARTYERS! Only a 5- to 10-minute walk from McFadden's, Tiki Bob's, Finnigan's Wake, Club Deco, Emerald City, & the Old City hotspots! (too many bars/clubs to list!!)

-Quizno's VIP party for friends & family was tonight (Tues., Dec. 9) from 5-7pm... free food and drink! Outstanding subs... "Mmmm... toasty!"... Everything's finally ready!!! GRAND OPENING TOMORROW, DECEMBER 10th! Head over and get your free coupons for free subs!

-QCI Holiday Party, this Friday night, at partner Mike Santori's house... I'll be stagging it up and gettin' hammered with a bunch of 35- to 60-year olds! Just kidding, co-workers, I love you all...

-Check out "What's Brendan got on eBay?"

-For those who didn't know yet, we are moving in our new apartment on Monday, December 15th!! Kick-ass Angel birthday celebrations to follow on Friday, Dec. 19 & Saturday, Dec. 20... all are welcome!!

-Bucknell Alumni Club of Philly Happy Hour @ McFadden's today, December 4, 6-8pm... $1 drinks and 1/2 price appetizers!!

HELLO, NEW APARTMENT!

-Happy Thanksgiving!!

-Who wants to go to the Y100 FEASTival with me??? It's on Saturday, November 29th, at the Tweeter Center. I have a bunch of tickets for the PIT AREA!!!

-Wow, first weekend in a while that there aren't huge party/travel plans... what will I do with myself? Well, for one thing, lots of fun pictures will be coming soon! (there's been a backlog...)

-APARTMENT TARGET MOVE-IN DATE: January 15, 2004... housewarming party to follow!

-Congratulations to Hollender & Megan for doing an OUTSTANDING job surprising the hell out of Spitzer for his birthday

-So I figured I really should do an update of at least some of the craziness/events that have unfolded in the past TEN days since I've updated the site... especially since I'll be down in Baltimore this whole weekend
-So Angel weasled his way to stay down Baltimore ever since a presentation he had to do down there Wednesday, and Pat invited 4-5 friends from home, and I'm taking a 1/2-day Friday... Fells Point is the place to be, evidently (from EVERYONE I've talked to that knew about it), for Halloween night... bars, costumes, college kids, and mayhem!
-This is an archived eBay site from Pat that is HILARIOUS!
-Another funny picture that Rubinstein created
-Ebert's started hiring for his Quizno's! It should open between the first and second week of November (November is tomorrow?!)... the Lowe's opened a week and a half ago, and the shopping center's starting up!
-Did you know that the Garden State Racetrack, once it's torn down, is going to be home to ~150 houses, PLUS a ginormous shopping center?!
-This is the Ultimate Bachelor Pad that Pat and his buddies first looked at in Baltimore during the summer... Pat, are you insane? Why didn't you move here?!
-Third Eye Blind concert on November 21st!! Y100 Feastival on November 29th!!
-So my Halloween costume is ROY... wait 'til you see the pictures!!
-I ran in a 5K Race last weekend! Even with a few beers the night before, I surprised myself and did better than expected... thank goodness for Ebert & my training regimen (sadly, no more, since Daylight Savings)

-Last weekend, Angel and I hit up Manayunk Happy Hour, then Johnnie Walker, then Finnigan's Wake (finally ending with a beat Tiki BOb's as the finale)... then we almost cracked a terrorist mailing plans home to his buddies from a 7-11, slept in my car, & got home at 6am after wandering the streets of Philly... then Friday, we went to Philly and then Manayunk... Saturday I had the race, then we went to Tiki Bob's McToberfest (another bust), but luckily didn't pay cover, so went to explore and chill in Old City... Saturday night was Judy's kickass Halloween party in Conshohocken (picture's forthcoming), while my night ended early, what I remember was a lot of fun! And Sunday, the Eagles won!!
- Ebert: You're going on a date to Dave & Buster's?
- Me: Yeah. Why is that weird?
- Ebert: Ummm... will it be fun?
- Me: Definitely. It's like going on a date to a fair. You get to play the chivalrous roll. Ya know, you like win prizes for the girl and she's all happy, and you get to showcase your athletic prowess. I took Erin to the Bloomsburg Fair on our first date and won her something.
- Ebert: So what athletic skill did you get to showcase?
- Me: The psychic dude guessed my weight wrong.

Even Ebert's grandmother laughed at me for that one!

-Thanks to everyone at Bucknell who reminded me how unorganized & bloated this site continues to get... ;-) Solution SOON!
-Homecoming Weekend was definitely a good time: Beirut, quarters, destroying the ship, amazing cover band, cool downtown scene, insanely-crowded bar Friday night, sleeping on 4-foot long couches, freezing-cold football game, foodfights in the kitchen, & not wanting to leave! (more later, just wanted to mention some highlights)
-There's a killer Thursday night brewing: Manayunk Brewery Bucknell Club of Philly Happy Hour, Johnnie Walker free-booze reception, and then who knows...?
-Homecoming Weekend, here we come... hopefully we'll all survive, drink a little drink, and see some kick-ass old friends...
-Thursday night: Taking Friday off, accidentally ditching each other, pulling limo lines, Yankees win, avoiding cops, Brendan sponsors the night, driving around for an hour to find a Mickey D's open late night, Monkey Bus, finishing the Jack, and Finnigan's Wake is a cool place to be on a Thursday nights!
-Homecoming Weekend looks to be quite the thrilling time! More alums back than Bid Day, Sangria, late nights, Boone's & Bagels, football game tailgates, Hall of Fame dedications, and one HELLUVA party! And oh yeah, all the coolest events are the ones NOT on the official calendar
-Good news! Angel's potentially $275 fine for his ticket from the Jersey to Philly train is actually only $50! I don't think that makes up for the $200+ per person weekend, though...
-Why does Bob (and *anyone* who's with him?!) get 1/2 price "military discount" at Coyote Ugly in Philly? That's a blackout waiting to happen!
-OK, so I apologize for the delay of updates... here's some tidbits, until I can fully catch up: so Thursday night, Ebert, myself, Dylan, & Angel (and kind of shady Bob & Payrow) went out to the Irish Pub in Philly, and ended up at Finnigan's Wake, then to Geno's! We took the train, which got us 1 open container violation and 40 minutes of missed trains, plus a *slow-ass* return trip home... oh, and Coyle & Payrow passed out in a cab, ran away when they woke up to see $30 on the meter, then ended up passing out on the steps of the Philadelphia Art Museum 'til 5am
-Friday night, Angel & I went to Brownie's in Ardmore, and met up with Bucknell friends... after getting no sleep the night before, I went and slept in the car for the last hour... oh! and a dumb-ass drunk kid plowed into my PARKED car, which Angel & I happened to be waiting in, as he was trying to parallel park in front of me!
-Saturday, Angel and I woke up to go (late) to the Penn vs. Bucknell football game... we tailgated through most of the game, then saw the heartbreaking finale (Bucknell missed a game-winning field goal with 20 seconds left)... then we went to Houlihan's, and ended up at a bar, and then the club Chemistry, in Manayunk
-A little info on Tiki Bob's, if you didn't know!
-Blink 182 has a new album coming out November 18th!!!
-Fun, but chill weekend... after seeing the late show of School of Rock, I hit up Tiki Bob's solo, meeting up with Coyle, Payrow, Carlisle, Caitlin, & Carlisle's sister (21st bday!) from 1-2 in the morning, then to Geno's late-night! Saturday, went to South Street with Dylan, Ebert, & Jess, wandering up to Old City in the process... as amazing as it sounds, I'd never been there for the night life! Expensive (parking is $15! boo!!), but fun. It was the last weekend I can remember that I was able to hit up the gym all 3 days! And then to cap off the weekend, the Eagles won, and I got to do some delicious past-due chores Sunday afternoon!
-Hot Hot Heat's Make Up the Breakdown is a kick-ass album! It'd be cool if it were more than just 10 tracks long!
-A dude at the gym today wanted to know where he could buy the 2001 Shipwreck shirt (!)... Remember, "Pleasure, Plunder, & Paraphernalia" ? He thought it was "mad cool"... Are some QCI reprints in order...? ;-)
-A new level of promotion for me at work! Besides the three partners and the warehouse guy/delivery driver, I am now the 5th member of the company to get a key to the building!
-My yearbook (L'Agenda, what the hell does that mean?!) finally get here! (Silly folks put 08059 instead of 08057 for my zip code!)
-UPDATE, Oct. 1 3:38pm: GO FINKY! She just BLEW AWAY the G.R.E.'s! And better on the math?!?! Congratulations!!!
-Good luck to Erin, Elise, & Brooke taking the G.R.E. exam tomorrow!!
-How is it October ?!?!
-I made almost $100 at Angel's 2-day garage sale... what the hell was I thinking having to get up before 9 two weekend days in a row?! Angel made $400!
-My dad & I *EACH* got free comped rooms (plus $19 total in comp chips?!) to the Borgata! Sunday thru Thursday nights only, but still! They're only good for 2 months... Who wants to go?! The more the merrier!!
-Who knew? ...that Johnnie Walker gave out 7+ shots of free booze at a special presentation, that you could skip out on $100+ tab at an Irish pub (BAD!), that a single apartment in Philly might only set you back $950/month, that there is MAD construction *at 11pm* on Locust (or whatever street that was) in Philly, that Tiki Bob's is hotter at 2am than 1am on a Thursday night, that driving through leaf piles at 3am could be THAT MUCH fun, that you can still wear pants the next day to work that you wore out all night, and that you can sleep in, and still wake up loopy when it's time to go to work!
-Let's just say we all saved a buncha money by ducking out on a BIG-ASS tab... fun night, tho, Tiki Bob's is always a good time!... more details later, oh what a night
-Update on my Camden Court saga... there occurred a fitting finale today, Wednesday, September 24... it is finally over, and, amazingly, the fine was only $250, down from $1,000... more details later, when I figure out how much I want to "reveal" on the website ;-)
-Well, so much for increased communication: a grand total of THREE people responded to my AIM profile contest: Angel, Ebert, & Metz
-The tornadoes we had today (9.23) were worse (in a lot of parts of the Delaware Valley) than Hurricane Isabel! My co-worker got in a car accident, one of the main stoplights on my way to work was out, Ebert was out of power for 12 hours, there was flooding on Main St., and all over PA & NJ trees crushed cars and houses!
-Well, let's start from the beginning: unfortunately due to Hurricane Isabel, the Happy Hour for the Bucknell Club of Philly was cancelled... Angel and I were steadfast in our efforts to chill in Manayunk and test the commute... it was a fun time, but the town was beat, it was POURING, and the commute was a lousy test, since there was light traffic and flooding on Friday
-On Friday night, my dad & I headed down to the Borgata in Atlantic City... after a VERY rough start to the night (when we were collectively $500 down), we rallied with 2 AMAZING shoes of blackjack late in the night... I ended winning bigtime! And to top it all of, right as we were about to leave, we met a drunk Irishman who insisted on getting us drinks, then taking us into the Black Label (High Rollers & their guests only) club, where we enjoyed Crown Royal and swordfish (and free parking!)... his name was John Connor, and he kept talking about how he was opening an ice cream shop called Create-A-Cone with 2 of his buddies, in the Marketplace basement of the Tropicana casino, right on the boardwalk... it was interesting, but pretty surreal: we also watched this guy, having just won $780 in a slot machine, blow almost $400 of it in $10 pulls on a different slot machine (this was after offering me $100 to show him which machine had won a dude $80,000 earlier in the night!)
-On Saturday, Ebert & I headed down to Baltimore, met up with Pat, and chilled with my sister & her lax friends at Hopkins... a couple highlights: realizing our pizza delivery dude at the beginning of the night was a Phi Psi, and getting invited to a party later that night at their chapter house... telling a girl that Ebert was bulimic as the reason he wasn't having pizza, then her embarrassing herself by asking if the reason he wanted hard alcohol was because he had throw up!... Ebert almost getting arrested, and us causing a scene, at Royal Farms at the end of the night... somehow spending $50 (?!) on a pizza, some fries, and FIFTY wings at 3:30am when apparently we didn't know better
-Oh yeah, and since we were up 'til 5am, I pretty much didn't make it to the NASCAR race the next day... after getting home at 4pm, I pretty much slept STRAIGHT THRU 'til morning... well, Baltimore can always be counted on for a good time!
-This is pretty shameless, but whoever might be reading this, ESPECIALLY my recently graduated fraternity brothers, keep in mind that I now work for a PRINTING COMPANY, that also does PROMOTIONAL ITEMS, and as a salesman, warm leads are infinitely better than cold ones. So if you know anyone in your neighborhood, company, or circle of friends that might have a need for my services, let me know. Thank you.
-I'll be going with John Shields, Bret Greene, Chris Sciolla, Metz, Ebert, & maybe Angel to Dover Speedway on Sunday (in Dover, Delaware), for the NASCAR Winston Cup!
-This weekend, we'll (Pat, Ebert, myself, & maybe Angel) be tailgating for the last of 4 lacrosse games my sister (Johns Hopkins) is playing at a Loyola tournament on Saturday
-Hurricane Isabel is upon us! Get ready for rain! American University cancelled classes for Thursday & Friday, on Wednesday night!
-Matchstick Men is a pretty good flick, Amstel Light is alright, and I had 6 slices of Papa John's pizza, mmmm!
-Finally gonna get to check out the new Borgata casino in Atlantic City... my dad & I are going Friday night for a few hours
-So guess who the chair of the NYSE Compensation Committee is? This is the committee behind the controversy of giving the New York Stock Exchange chair, Richard Grasso, a $140 million "salary" when everyone else in the market is struggling (and why he just quit!)... our old friend, Ken Langone!
-Get ready! Any alumni in or around Philly this coming Thursday, September 18, the first Bucknell Club of Philly event of the season is on! Happy Hour at the Manayunk Brewery! Angel and I are hitting it up, and making a night (and a test of the morning commute) of it
-Over the weekend (Sept. 12-14), I went to State College to visit Trent and Brooke... we had a blast, and Erin joined us Saturday night! The weather was kinda blah, but Trent's place is nice, and State College is very fun... pics below!
-It is the two year anniversary of September 11th...
-Bid Day Weekend was a great success, especially for my alumni class... we had 13 guys come back! myself, Angel, Pat, Wozniak, Commander, Jun, Ferchak, Spitzer, Hollender, Powers, Trent, Jackson, & surprise guest Pat Hart! More to come soon...
-Well, BID DAY WEEKEND 2003 is finally upon us! Load up your road-tripping vehicles! Can't wait to see all those seniors... and we'll miss you guys that can't make it!
-I finally got the PKP keg tap back from Lauren Bromley's house... Mrs. Bromley had to get it out of the trunk of her Jaguar; she thought it was a bicycle pump! But she was nice enough to return it to me, no questions asked
-Check out the BLACKOUT!
-Our kitten, Wylie, has been officially diagnosed by the vet as having deformed knees... it's not an issue for him, but know we at least know his poor walking/running skills mean that he's NOT retarded!
-Going to Baltimore Saturday night was a fun time... Pat & I went out with two of his work buddies, then had to wake up after 6 hours of sleep to help my sister move in to Hopkins! Moving in was slow and took many hours, but it wasn't that bad, and we certainly had a lot to show for it! How in the world do girls have that much STUFF in their dorm rooms?!
-Just so the 6 or so lucky individuals know... Round #2 of checks for half.com books have been sent out! Look for them around Wednesday...
-Luckily, Bush's dog Barney was not injured
-Ebert compares my website to Homer Simpson's "Mr. X" gossip website, hahaha... what do you think? Isn't it too late for me to now become "Mr. X"?
-Here's a VM that Pat left me at noon on Saturday (Aug. 30), before I left to come down and visit him: "Hey Brendan, this is Pat. You're probably still sleeping, but for some reason I was up at the ungodly hour of 8:15. Anyways, if you're still at Bucknell, and I think you are, could you do me a favor? Grab a sleeve of cups, and any kind of food that you think would look good in my apartment. Thanks a lot. Later."
-Here is a hilarious recording of a message that I left on Burns' answering machine (at his HOUSE, when he & his dad were leaving at like 7am the next day for North Carolina), on the night of Jackson's graduation party
-Happy September! Holy moley! Well, something less depressing: Happy Labor Day!
-Very happy that Labor Day Weekend is just around the corner! Once you start working, you LIVE for even one day off!
-Here is a webcam of the construction going on at Hartford Corners in Delran (the shopping center where Ebert's Quizno's will be), haha
-NEWS FLASH: Bucknell makes Philly news! (it's BUCKNUTS!)
-Check out the Mustang 2005 concept car! Here's another pic of it.
-I just figured I would do a little update: tonight was the QCI barbecue beerfest party, and besides for the 7 kids in the pool (the 3 partners' kids frolicking), it was a blast... Corona in a can!! Plus some Bud & Bud Lite, and it was a good time. Work is going well, too...
-Here is an amazing photo of the NYC skyline during sunrise, the morning after the power outage
-Just got back (Aug. 17) from a 24-hour "outing" to Baltimore and Philly... had a great time, a lot of fun, and a good deal of wildness, too... stories will be forthcoming tomorrow, but right now I'm beat, so I'm gonna get some sleep for the week...
-Last night I was up pretty late studying for the life insurance licensing exam... today I took it, and it was TOUGH... but, I PASSED!! (they don't tell you your score), phew! Down to Baltimore this afternoon w/ Angel to check out Creighton's new place in Canton!
-I got this gift from my parents a few weeks ago, but just got a chance to talk about it now! As a graduation gift, my folks got me an awesome class ring... now I can finally stop wearing my HS ring, and have a really nice one!
-These pictures are from the basement of my work building @ QCI, which is an old farmhouse (built in 1853 or before), and it used to be part of the Underground Railroad network, almost 150 years ago! These alcoves used to be tunnels that led under the ground as an escape route out of the house!
-Now I know I just turned 23, but this is ridiculous! I got this in the mail a couple of weeks ago!
-Below are finally some pictures from Jackson's graduation party!
-Here are the tribute pictures to our beloved Volvo 240 (good riddance!)... my only 2 accidents (one into a curb, one into a median) were in this rear-wheel drive menace!
-Construction has begun (almost 2 weeks ago, pictures taken Aug. 6th) on Centerton Square!
-The Bruce Springsteen concert was last night, at the brand-new Lincoln Financial Field! Went with Erin, Angel, Gropper, Angela, & my family... and now I'm 23, too!
-I had a very nice birthday... 23! Got some great gifts from Erin and my family, and took my first day(s) off from work (2 1/2 days!)
-I apologize for not having updated! I have a bunch of news and pictures to put up, so keep visiting, and I'll be caught up in the next couple of days!
-Well, it finally happened... the RAV4 ran out of gas! Erin and I were on our way back from Philadelphia, and in the middle of HEAVY traffic... bam! 50 minutes later, AAA bailed me out, LESSON LEARNED
-Went to Jackson's party on Saturday... it was great! Burns, Grahme, & I represented, teaching Jackson's crazy relatives ("Uncle Firecracker!", pictures coming soon) about kegstands, and playing horseshoes (I *SUCK*!)... after the torrential opening rain, it was great... Boy, does Jackson live in the sticks, almost 90 min. west of Bucknell, and his neighbor had over TEN vehicles (mostly pick-ups) "parked" in his backyard! We pretty much drank all night, kicked the keg, and then hit up Sheetz (a hungover person's best friend!) the next morning
-Not to brag (well I guess it's unavoidable), but during work today, I made FOUR appointments (which is far and away a personal best for me)... things are really getting started!
-Oh no, the bourbon!!!
-On the way home from Trent's party last weekend, I ALMOST ran out of gas... usually I figure the Rav has 20 miles left in it after the fuel light goes on, but I had to go THIRTY-ONE miles past the fuel light! This is an undoctored photo!
-Check out Fox's crazy new special... I missed it when it was on, but I'm gonna catch it when it's reshown!
-The Volvo is finally going bye-bye... we're dropping it off tomorrow, donating it to the Red Cross... goodbye, Volvo! The car that I had my only two (real) accidents in will no longer be parked in the Putnam driveway... (there will be a tribute picture up shortly)
-This is a brief story from a few weeks ago: I was on Route 80, going to Jun's house to pick him up on the way to Pat's, when I saw this minivan driving with some prefab 6-ft. fence sections (like from Home Depot) lashed to the roof. All of a sudden, one of the sections is ripped off the roof by the wind, twists around in the air, and slams into the road. Then the 2nd one does the same thing, this time shattering into pieces everywhere on the asphalt! He had just gotten onto Route 80, so he wasn't going really fast, but cars behind him had to swerve around the wood debris. I was just thinking of how expensive those sections are to buy!
-Went fitness swimming for the first time ever today... MAN, is that rough! Coyle & I could only do 5 laps... and then I yacked after eating later on!
-Did you know the First Union Center and the First Union Spectrum are now the Wachovia Center and Wachovia Spectrum???
-Erin visited Moorestown this weekend! She saw where I worked, got to meet the 2 new kitties, plus we went to Benihana to eat! On Saturday we went to Trent's graduation party...
-Trent's party was a blast! Brooke's house is amazing, very huge, and has a pretty big pool! Trent, Brooke, myself, Erin, Commander, Wozniak, Celeste, Laraine, Poirot, Martin, Bittorf, Kyle, Burns, & Brooke's family were in attendance... along with beirut, kegstands, tons of amazing food, and wine, there was a great photographic cake that we didn't eat... we all slept in a huge room in the basement (SNORING!), and chilled and played pool the next day (plus AMAZING cinnamon buns!)
-Check out this silly/interesting toy that I sell at QCI... it is a "promotional product" (and very useful!)
* -I will (hopefully soon) be unveiling a very fun/useful project joining an interest in Phi Psi with a fun part of my job... stay tuned!
-I am really going to try and update the site once-per-day (*at least* a small amount of info each time), to keep things interesting... the only exceptions will be when I'm out of town, or really, really tired
-Today (July 22nd) on my run, I saw Tracy Hall again, at the same spot by the bus stop (across from Friendly's on Main St.), except this time it's 7:30 at night... I decide that if on my way back on my running route, if he's still there, I'll talk to him... he IS still there, and he REMEMBERED me (!)... he asked about my dad and sister (remembered her full name) being a "star goalie" in soccer (now only plays lacrosse!)... he's now missing a couple teeth, and was drinking a Coors Light in the middle of this busy part of Main St. (the cop who stopped to talk to us for a minute only seemed A LITTLE interested in this "bag" (why was the cop saying that someone had reported a bag stolen in the Rite-Aid right behind us?) he had with him at the bench, and that beer can...hmmm... anyways, we BSed for 10 min or so about me graduating and now working, and him graduating YEARS ago (he's now 44) with a journalism (!) degree, and his dream job of wanting to run bike tours down in Montego Bay, Jamaica... anyways, the CLINCHER of this whole event was when I compared him with Coach Little (how they were both driven out of coaching jobs by MMS & MHS, respectively)... they are pretty similar guys, right? Both black, athletic, talented-but-not-the-best-coaches, are a Moorestown "personality" (which means they rode their bikes around, and the cops knew them, for either good reasons or bad)... anyways, I made that reference to Coach Little and Tracy goes, "Yeah, but Coach Little is a bit of a KNUCKLEHEAD..." HAHAHA... I almost cracked up right in front of him... First of all, it's confirming something all the kids knew, and secondly, it was a bit hypocritical, it seems, for Tracy Hall (who certainly has his bizarre quirks... open shirts, anyone?) to make that comparison! [ coming up soon: Coach Little's funniest moments/lines ! ]
-Check out the long-awaited pics of my workspace at QCI, below!
-LOOK! I found a young picture of MYSELF, but in the PRESENT!! This is more confusing than both the paradoxes of the Back to the Future's and the Terminator's combined!
-Does anyone need T-SHIRTS printed? All kinds! LET ME KNOW, because that is one of the things I am selling now through my new job... I'm gonna try to hit up the fraternities & sororities at Bucknell for Bid Day shirts and whatnot, but let me know if you can suggest anyone to help me out!
-More later, but Pirates of the Caribbean is a GREAT movie! League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, however, is a DIFFERENT story!
-Angel and I had a SLEEPOVER July 20th (his family was camping in southern Maryland & it was much less driving to stay here, then go straight to Trenton the next day)
-I graduated from 40 hours of Primerica life insurance training today! Taking the practice test Wednesday, and the state exam soon after...
-On my way to work today, I saw Tracy Hall (!) waiting for the bus, across from Friendly's on Main St... remember him, those who ran track in Middle School at Moorestown? He booted someone off the team (I forget who) for making fun of Gayleen's thighs... he was like a Coach Little in training! He may have plenty of skill and knowledge, but not at coaching!
-Saw a Ferrari yesterday on Rt. 130! I got to pass him for 1/2 a second, hahaha...
-FINALLY started running again last week... only 2 miles a day so far, but being pretty consistent; starting next week, GYM! Goin' to L.A. Fitness in Cherry Hill w/ Coyle and his crew (heavy start-up cost, but not bad overall, espec. since it has a swimming pool, sauna, aerobics, and a sports masseuse included!)
-Getting my first quotes and orders for work! If YOU need ANY printing or promotional products, LET ME KNOW!
-We just got 2 kittens, and we named them Wylie & Rascal. They are brothers, 6 weeks old (already trained to use a litter box), and very cute. You can see the pictures below.
-One of the kittens, Rascal, got sick and couldn't walk Saturday night! Apparently he sprained a muscle or something, and as of Monday morning, he's a lot better!
-I spent my 4th of July at Erin's, with our family... we barbecued, saw fireworks over the Susquehanna River, and relaxed... oh, and I gave her the last of her birthday gifts, including an 18x24 of this cool photomosaic
-Gonna get to see a nearly-sold out Bruce Springsteen show at the brand new Lincoln Financial Field (the new Eagles stadium, "Lincoln Park") on my birthday, August 11th, with Erin! (it's the 3rd of 3 concerts by Springsteen, and he's the first event of the new venue!)
-Now, the other kitten, Wylie, has the same problem that Rascal had! Apparently it's a virus... phew, he was better after a few days, only 1 day longer than Rascal took
-My job is going great... my informal training is pretty much over, and I'm starting to get some leads and potential customers... I really enjoy the people I'm working with, and am excited to really start to get into the selling!
-My dad had a successful angioplasty, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, on June 26th to alleviate blockage in his one artery, after going into the hospital 2 days earlier for chest pains... now he's all better!
-Saw Terminator 3 with Dylan last night (Wed. July 2nd): it was pretty badass. Outstanding, insane action sequences, keeping with the style of the 2nd movie... Arnold was great, lots of not-corny humor, cool villian, and even the plot was pretty good. Not as good as T2, biggest complaints would be that there wasn't as memorable a villain (how do you top liquid metal?) and too short (only 1:50 long). Overall: awesome!
-I finally got a look at the inside of the new Infiniti FX35 "SUV with the heart of a sports car" yesterday (Tuesday July 1st). One of Quality Concept's partners (my bosses), Mike Santori, just got it in March, and we drove around Philly. It's based off the same design as the new Nissan Murano. The interior reminds me of the G35, which Rob Bower now has... nice leather, great design, and luxurious interior (now Ferchak will probably be mad that I'm talking about cars as if I know what I'm talking about). Anyway, cool to check out a very attention-getting "car" (despite people's comparison of it to a "shoe"!)
-Interstate Route 295 is a MESS south of Mount Laurel... it looks like they're widening both sides because it's down to 2 or 3 lanes each way, but there's at least 6 lanes (maybe not that big when the median is back in) in between under construction... watch out! Take the turnpike...
-Check out my still undeveloped QCI page
-I AM working as a salesman for a company in my hometown. I start on Monday!!! One of the 3 partners is a Bucknell '87 alum! The company is small... 15 people.
-My first day of work: it went well... got a free lunch at a really nice Italian restaurant, and already had my own desk & computer!
-I am living at home for now, but still have not unpacked all my stuff!
-Saw Hulk on Sunday, w/ Creighton & Angel & Potian... I actually really enjoyed it. It was a little long, and a little slow getting to the meat of the story, and the ending wasn't so hot... BUT, the FX were amazing, the action scenes were awesome, and all of the actors really did a great job. Plus, the unique cinematography and directing style ("comic-book style") were groundbreaking and interesting to watch.

[ HOMETOWN ]
-Bromley is now in INDIA on her journeys via Semester at Sea!

-Ebert is barely a month away from opening his Quizno's! The grand opening day has not been nailed down yet, and he (is about to, but can't yet until the entrance from the highway is completed) start hiring... woo hoo! It's the toastiness that makes it good
-Evidently, the construction next to Copperfield's HAS to be MORE than just a parking lot... their employees seem to be a little clueless
-So, the construction next to Copperfield's on Rt. 73 is going to be... (drumroll)... a new parking lot! (d'oh!)
-Sept. 16th: Bromley is getting to Hong Kong tomorrow, and then is going to the Great Wall! She is just embarking on her Semester at Sea trip
-Check out Jay Phillips!!
-A warning: evidently, Moorestown police now have (the newer, better, and harder-to-detect) KA-band radar to catch speeders... previously, they just had the older K- and X-bands... watch out!
-From Jen Butler: Mike Brooks was arrested from the little Acme on Chester for shoplifting?!
-I saw Justin Joy at Loew's Theatre at Cherry Hill, after seeing Open Range with my family... he's filled out a little bit, has a tattoo, and just moved out on his own, to a house in Mount Laurel... hadn't seen him since graduation!
-I just found this out, but Garth was in Italy during his Spring Break, just like I was! (different dates, though)... he even did the same pub crawl as my crew did, in Rome! (he stuck around long enough to get his t-shirt, though!)
-Garth launched a near-PR jav throw, and is now on the track team at the Naval Academy... AND he's a walk-on goalie for the soccer team!
-Mark Metz and Brian Reice are both now officially DONE with the U.S. Marine Corps
-Here is an update on Garth, from our local newspaper!
-Wolper is done his internship in NYC, and is in Moorestown until August 20th!
-Coyle bought a sweet new Suzuki sport bike a couple months ago... 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds!
-Bromley had jury duty today! (Aug. 5) It was at the Mt. Holly courthouse, and took 5 hours... She got picked, but then dismissed... how come? Compared to everyone else, she didn't read any newspapers, drove her mom's Jaguar, & watched Friends & Sex in the City, not the norm answers for a jury pool that averaged 50+ years old!
-On last Friday night (July 25th), Evan Luce, Josh Walker, & Vicky Grossman drove by my house, and since I was out front checking out Coyle's bike, they stopped for a sec... I hadn't seen Josh or Evan since graduation! They've graduated, and are getting a house in Philly w/ Doug Sell... little known fact: Walker & I shared a big hot tub/pool with a couple Hooters girls at a Philadelphia Wings lacrosse game in our junior year of HS!
-Metz is home! At least 'til he starts community college down in Maryland in the fall... he's goin' to Phish tonight (July 30) & tomorrow night, at the Tweeter Center!
-Ebert's back at home, and hard at work on the Quizno's... it's still slow starting out, and there's no real entrance from Rt. 130, but the phone number is activated, and 2 people already called on the first day! In other bad and bizarre news, someone broke into the store and stole one of their toilets! So, whoever had copies of that key, there's already new locks!
-Coyle saved a man and woman from drowning at the shore today! (July 28) The ocean floor dropped from 4 ft. to 10+ in one step, and with a strong current, a girl started struggling in the water... a guy jumped in to save her, but he too got into trouble... Bob saved them both, and everyone's OK!
-Kaltenbach made it 1/2-way across the Delaware River at Bromley's house in Riverton early Saturday (July 26) morning... after a night of partying, he thought he could make it all the way across, but turned back after reaching the middle!
-Ebert's back from Denver... and Hartford Corners had its groundbreaking TODAY! (July 28th, INSIDE)
-Ebert is now in DENVER for OFFICIAL Quizno's training (he flew out today, July 20th)... there is 2 hours of time difference there, and he flies back on Sunday, July 27th
-Mr. Pustie (remember him, the old substitute teacher from MMS/MHS?) apparently got Teacher of the Year at West Deptford HS, and is currently teaching a summer course at Penn!
-Tom Kilroy had a bunch of people over at his Church St. house for the 4th of July... Metz, Dylan, & Liz were there, along with a bunch of older heads from Kilroy's year
-Saw Emily Miller down at Memorial Field today... she graduated from Georgetown, and is working this summer at EFS (Friends School) camp with Jen Butler and Steve Toniatti... then in a month she goes to Chicago for a year, volunteering for a neglected kids organization... then to law school in Fall 2004!
-Metz is still in town (his mom lives on 2nd St.) for another few days, until this weekend... then he goes back to Camp Lejeune in NC for his final 10 days, then gets to sit back in MD and enjoy 60 built-up days of leave, to finish up his career in the Marine Corps!
-Check out the new Centerton Square, which is coming in next to that new Acme shopping center right near my work in Moorestown, between Centerton, Young, Marter, & Rt. 38 roads... it's gonna have a Wegman's; Bed, Bath, & Beyond; Target; six restaurants; 3 other big stores; and 7-9 smaller stores... whew! Ebert informed me that there will also be a QUIZNO'S at that location!
-Happy Birthday to Wolper, he turned 21 on June 21st!
-Abe just got back 3 weeks ago from a 3-month tour in the Navy... he's still living in Norfolk, VA, and might go career w/ the Navy (he's now at E5 rank)... he visited Moorestown for a few days and stayed at Luca's, but went back Sunday, June 22nd
-Ebert now owns a franchise for Quizno's Subs, that'll open in September on Route 130 in Delran (his dad's his main financier), in the brand-new shopping center that'll also feature a Lowe's, Blockbuster, & Shop-Rite ("East Gate II"?)
-Ebert is at "Quizno's University" for 3 weeks in Baltimore, learning how to run the business six-days a week
-Ebert is a little over 1/3 his Quizno's training (part 1 of 2, later he goes to Denver)... he's been at the Glen Burnie store checking out all the aspects of running a franchise, being trained with another guy who's opening up a Quizno's in Manhattan
-Suggest to Quizno's to change their ordering system: from "tell the sandwich-maker, then tell the cashier" to deli-style, where you order once at the cashier, it goes in the system, you take a number, and wait
-Apparently, the shopping center that Ebert's Quizno's franchise will be at is called "Hartford Corners," and is at the corner of Rt. 130 & Fairview Blvd., in Delran... along with the other stores already mentioned, it's also gonna have a Donato's Pizzeria, a restaurant-chain based in Ohio, and bought by McDonald's in '99
-Whoa... just found a press release from last October with even more info on that shopping center... also, here's a Courier Post article from yesterday that mentions it briefly... and finally, here's a cool artist's conception of the finished site (plus a 2-page pdf brochure)
-Talked to Bromley July 9th by phone for a little, first time (besides chit-chat) since last summer... she just got back from Italy about a week ago, after being there a month, getting credits through an SMU program (she was in a group of about 45 people, only 6 of them guys!)... for her last semester at SMU in the fall, she's going on Semester at Sea (Vietnam, China, Cuba, South Africa, India, Brazil, plus about 5 more), and leaves August 27th... right now, her family is building a (future retirement) house in Naples, Florida, and it should be ready in August (they've been working on it for a year)... Lauren's going down there is this weekend, until Tuesday... finally, her grandfather (Caterpillar, the one who lives in SC) has been building his own new house in near Voorhees, at the Pine Valley golf course, 20 min. from Riverton... this summer, she's just chilling, and working a little for her dad (Caterpillar)
-Heard about the new $864 million Southern New Jersey Light Rail System project... then I actually saw it in action, today, near Riverton!... it connects Trenton to Camden, and just opened this summer (it goes along with the "revitalization" efforts to the Route 130 corridor, i.e., Loews/Home Depot/Wal-Mart/ShopRite/Quizno's!)... I think! What I saw today might've just been the new tracks. It might not open 'til the Fall...
-Dylan's working at Primerica, the marketing arm of Citigroup Corp. as a salesman/financial counselor. If you're in debt, let him know!
-Went to Copperfield's on Rt. 73 on Saturday night with Metz (first time seeing him in a year, gets out of the Marines in only 10 more service days!), Caitlin, Luca, Brett Hughes, & Dylan, and at the bar on the deck met up with Jenna, John Shields, Bret Greene (and his sister Christy, getting married Oct. 11th), and some other Motown heads
-Unfortunately, I guess my town is spoiled, epitomized by this one little brat
-Graduation in my town occurred without incident on June 19th (Blair wasn't at the ceremony, so there was no booing... the salutatorian got a huge amount of applause, though!)

[ BUCKNELL ]
-Oh man... Hoss, have you heard about this yet? I couldn't stop thinking about Hoss' room as "Mexico" during our Around the World mixers... plus, he's at Duke! Check it out: glad it's Sig Chi & not Phi Psi!

-Evidently, the "Boston Crew" (i.e. Colin, Lucia, Bass, Perrin, etc.), along with our friend Mr. Oishi, are planning a trip to Las Vegas from October 30 thru November 2!

-Here is something interesting: Schwartz on Hot or Not.com... here is the link... courtesy of our Downtown Brethren
-Bucknell put up some pictures of 2 bad thunderstorms they got over the summer

-Jason Rubinstein involved with something funny? Yup, apparently it happened!

-Well, everyone's back at Bucknell, and classes start tomorrow!

-Wozniak emailed me a couple weeks ago with an update on himself, plus a crazy story from Shayne's bachelor party (Shayne's wedding was this past weekend!)... he's working in the Allentown, PA area for a company called Victaulic (where he's laying lots of pipe!). He started Monday, July 21st, just got an apartment, and moved in on the weekened of July 18th
-Got an email from Aurelia a few days ago... he's in Korea now, and will be until mid-August... he's still alive, and WILL be returning as GP of Phi Psi (he's still a ways from the chain-of-command to replace Bush & Powell), and has gotten to train with all kinds of bad-ass weapons this summer, and blow up tanks!
-On September 18th, the Bucknell Philly Alumni Club is having a Happy Hour @ 6:30 at a pub in Manayunk (west of Philly, but still in Greater Philadelphia)... who's gonna go with Angel & I???
-Here is the link for the Alumni web site for Bucknell alums... register a forwarding email address, and put in your contact info!

-PROOF!! Ferchak has officially changed his first name!
-Reddy's party was pushed back from LAST weekend to this coming weekend, on Saturday
-Hollender GOT A JOB, TODAY! (July 21st)... he's gonna start August 4th for John Wiley & Son's, Inc., as PRODUCTION ASSISTANT!
-Trent's GRADUATION PARTY will be this coming Saturday (July 26th), starting at 4pm, at Brooke's house in Chambersburg... EMAIL ME for more details!
-Creighton has apparently found a nice apartment, and even moved in! It's somewhere around the Inner Harbor of Baltimore (Canton), 2 bedroom (he needs a roommate), with a nice waterfront view!
-Angel shadowed a guy in his visit to San Diego to get trained (they are young & "mad cool")... his company has 3 NJ transit prototype (hybrid engine) buses in the Hamilton, NJ Transit maintenance garage... he is a rep for the buses, and shows them to people and other transit agencies... he gets to take the buses to special conventions... his company upped his celly minutes to 2400 PER MONTH!, and also gave him a company laptop... they also paid for his entire trip, including airfare, hotel, car rental, and salary for that week!
-Gropper doing TWO internships this summer: ABC Sports two days a week, & a NYC sports radio station WFAN ("The Fan") 3 days a week
-Stoner is playing frisbee and sleeping in, while looking for a job
-Bid Day weekend, I THINK, is September 5th-6th
-The Fall Fest is back at Bucknell, probably being headlined by Saves the Day this time
-Banderson is in Boston shadowing Spitzer's dad, who is the director of the bone marrow transplant unit at Massachusetts General Hospital (#4 in the nation)
-Burek's company's name is Clark Construction Company
-Spitzer's still job hunting... meanwhile Megan is working for Lord, Abbett & Co. Investments, living & working in NYC
-Hollender is making some money this summer working at a baseball camp... he's having fun, except for 11-year old ADHD psychos
-Creighton is doing well starting his new job this week (see FUNNY story below)... he's working with a lot of people his age, and is happy to be making money (and making his parents SO PROUD that he's not a BUM anymore!)... he's been staying at a truck-stop motel for $37 a night this week, and will actually be staying in Baltimore this weekend (instead of coming home), to find an apartment... other than that, he's learning the area, and trying to stay clear of Tractor Trailer Triver Testing, the terror of the nearby highways
-Ferchak is probably gonna start going down to Deep Creek, MD (on the western edge of West Virginia, bordering Maryland & PA, from Wed.-Fri... the window-washing down there is better than landscaping at home, but there aren't as many hours available... he's looking forward to school, and moving out soon and getting his own appt... his car needs work (when doesn't it need work, Shaun?), and he's been hittin' the gym, even though landscaping sure is more athletic than my job!
-Burek starts work on Monday at his new job (company name???), outside of D.C... he just moved down there Saturday (his apartment has his own bathroom and a huge closet), and already has all his utilities (and the most important thing, the cable modem) hooked up... he's rooming with Michelle Baylor, another Civ-E from Bucknell... he has his car down there, but will be taking the train (40 min. each way walking/riding) because parking is so expensive... guess his company! it's main office is there in Bethesda, but it also has locations in Boston, Philly, Atlanta, & up the West Coast... he just found at what project he'll be working on: a $55-$60 million commercial building about a mile from the White House!
-Burnsy is hanging out at home, not yet working... he's getting ready to study up his senior year, since he's planning on either going to graduate school or pharmacological college (is that the right way to say it?)
-John Gray is doing well in NYC... he's living in Manhattan, doing the same JP Morgan Chase (only $769 billion in assets, compared to CitiGroup's +$1 trillion) internship that Aziz did last summer... he's staying in the Financial District (right near where the World Trade Center was), has a cell phone, and is having a blast in NYC (except for the dullness of the job (8-12 hrs per day)... but at least it's great pay). He doesn't have a roomie, and the Hyundai is "rotting away" at Bucknell. He's been hanging out w/ Potian, Douggie, Spitzer & Megan, Mike from KDR, and some buddies from home who are also living in NYC... He is perhaps dating a mystery girl from PSU, although I suspect that he is the actual one that caused Britney to make her revelation recently...he recommends Brother Jimmy's BBQ as a good bar to visit in Manhattan, and may buy a motorcycle!...on another note (thru Gray), Aziz is probably going to business school soon
-A bunch of the older alums, in addition to Hollender, were up at Colin's place in Boston for the 4th
-Hawley had a bunch of the Bucknell folks (Rollins, Kyle, Manderson, ...?) at his place for the 4th of July
-Kasdan was apparently in NYC for the 4th of July weekend, spending time with Amanda
-The pictures are now up for Pat's graduation party (below), as well as a couple others from the weekend... here is a lousy (but watchable) display of the Creighton's amateur fireworks display! (might need to right-click 'save as'; I'll figure out how to rotate the video 90 degrees soon)
-Creighton's graduation party was this weekend (July 5th), and was a blast. Jun, myself, & DeVita joined a bunch of Pat's friends and family (Angel had to fly out to San Diego that day, so couldn't make it). We had our own fireworks display, barbecued, went swimming, jumped on a huge tramopoline, and slept in the "Canvas Castle" (a small camper), all the while listening to hilarious stories from Mr. Creighton (the childhood video of Pat in a tu-tu, anyone?)
-Creighton is now in Baltimore, MD... he just got a job at Northrop Grumman, and is working near BWI... this week, he'll be at a hotel until he finds an apartment down there
-Angel just got a job with a company based in San Diego, where he's at for one week of training (week of July 7th), then he goes to Hamilton Square, NJ (only a 1/2 hr north of me), to start up a department that will lobby for a contract with NJ Transit to produce hybrid buses
-Ferchak is doing landscaping around his hometown (getting a free tan and gym workout), and will be starting at Carnegie-Mellon this fall!

Dumb Criminals: NASA

Remember when the shuttle Columbia broke up in space in February, and random idiots were collecting the debris to keep or try to sell on eBay? Well, NASA declared an amnesty period for like 48 hours or so, to try to get people to bring in the debris, and they wouldn't get in trouble. My coworker's husband works as an investigator for NASA, and they had some idiot who brought in debris from the Challenger disaster, 19 years earlier! He actually thought he was covered by the amnesty, and was very surprised when they arrested him and charged him for what he'd done almost 20 years earlier!

Funny, FUNNY Story

So I'm talking to Ebert today (June 10th) on the phone... he's been down at the Glen Burnie, MD Quizno's store, learning first-hand how the business operates. He asks me about a tall fraternity brother of mine, seeing if I could identify who he's thinking of. I rattle off a couple names (Kyle, Ryland, Burns, etc.), and then get to Creighton. Ebert is hesitant, because he seems to remember that most of my brothers live in PA or northern NJ (which is partially true). So then I mention Creighton, and tell him he lives on Long Island and that's whose graduation party I was just at over the weekend. Not sure why, I describe Pat to Ebert, and he seems to think that's who he was thinking about. Turns out that Ebert THOUGHT he saw Pat IN his Quizno's restaurant today, during the lunch hour. He said there was a guy, with some friends, who ordered and ate, and Ebert thought he looked familiar, but couldn't quite place him. Busy with working, and wearing his apron behind the counter, Ebert didn't take the opportunity to talk to him. I then remembered that Pat was currently outside of Baltimore, starting his new job. Getting excited, I check Northrop Grumman's web site to find out where Pat is outside of Baltimore and near BWI. The only NG office in Maryland is in Lithicum. Ebert hasn't heard of it, so I plug the NG address into MapQuest, and ask for directions to Ebert's Glen Burnie Quizno's store (I posted the address/map above 2 days ago). Wondering how far apart they will be, I joke with Ebert about whether he thinks it'll be 50 miles (it couldn't have been Pat), 2 miles (it must be!), or somewhere in between. Then MapQuest finally loads... 5.8 miles! I go on to describe Pat more to Ebert, and it was him! How random?! Of all the places and Quizno's, what are the odds?! And the funniest thing is that they don't even really know each other, just have seen each other a couple times when Ebert has visited Bucknell! So I call up Pat and decide to mess with him, asking him about his job and stuff. Eventually we start talking about if he works with people young enough to hang out with (such as go to lunch with). He says, yeah, he goes out with his co-workers, and actually he went to a Quizno's today! We had talked before about Ebert, but didn't match the Quizno's kid with the friend who had visited BU. I told Pat what Ebert had told me, and he exclaimed that he had thought one of the guys behind the counter looked familiar, but had NO IDEA who he was! He even said that while he was in line at the Quizno's, he was talking about the chain a lot, and when his buddy asked him how he knew so much about franchise starting prices, etc., he told them that his friend-of-a-friend was starting one up. Little did he know that Ebert, the kid he was talking about, was a mere 10 feet away!! The other guy (luckily not Chris) even messed up Pat's buddy's sandwich! This was only the 2nd time Pat had been to Quizno's, and because they take credit cards, he'd liked the food the first time, and had talked to me about the chain so much, they had happened to go, the very week that Ebert was all the way down in MD training! CRAZY, EH?! I'm the glue between the two! And they BOTH thought the other looked vaguely familiar, but both thought that that other person was, of course, NOWHERE NEAR Maryland, where they were! HA!

"Down the Shore"

A funny thing about South Jersey folks is that EVERYONE around here goes "down the shore." Not only is the phrase unique and kind of odd, but this ritual occurs by families and even individuals of all ages for the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and throughout the summer. It's just amazing... I feel like I'm missing out by going to Pennsylvania for the 4th. I've just started this job and have been talking to a lot of (potential) customers, and EVERYONE is going "down the shore." Wildwood, Ocean City, Sea Isle, Stone Harbor, Long Beach Island, Avalon, Brigantine... you name it, they're going to it. Wow... Since my family is from North Jersey, and originally from Michigan (& Ohio), we're not part of that South Jersey "culture" (yet). Very curious...

Where's My Cell Phone?

So I went out to my car at night (in June) from Erin's house, to get the last of my stuff. I was staying the night, and later in the night, I realized I hadn't brought my cell phone inside. I figured this was weird, but didn't need it, so didn't worry about it. The next morning, I packed up my car and drove down Erin's long, fairly-steep, gravel driveway towards her street. As I made a right turn into the street, another car was passing by me (rare for that part of Erin's street), and he honked at me. I thought this was weird, but just kept driving. But then he gets out of his car, and I can see him in my rearview mirror. He's waving his hands and yelling, so I decide to turn around. I have no idea who this guy is, and didn't recognize him nor his car. So I drive all the way back to him a quarter mile or so, right by the bottom of Erin's driveway, and he comes up to my window and is like, "You dropped your cell phone!" and hands it to me. I was stunned that I didn't have it with me, and he explained that as I had turned the corner from the driveway, it had flown off of my roof onto the road. Amazingly- luckily, he had seen all this happen. It was a tiny bit beat-up in one corner (I'd only gotten it a few weeks before, after my previous one fell in the pool at Senior Week in Hilton Head), but otherwise fine. I thanked him and drove away. But I marveled at the fact that I must've put it on my car roof while unloading the night before, and then also that it could've fallen off at any time, lost in the bushes or forest forever. Especially with Erin's non-busy street, I was VERY lucky that this guy saved the day!

What E-Brake?

I was up visiting Erin in Williamsport, and I wanted to grab a few things from the fraternity house in Lewisburg before I went home. I had to be sneaky, since P.S. patrols the University-owned fraternity houses, and also because of the nearby construction on the Breakiron Building. So I skulked around the house and got what I needed from closets, loaded my car (the Toyota RAV4), and drove up the driveway to leave. But in the 20 minutes I was there, a pickup truck with two construction workers inside was blocking the way out of the Phi Psi driveway. Fraternity Rd. to the left was blocked (unfortunately forever!) by the new fence, so that was the only way out. I waited a few seconds, thinking they would see me in their mirros. But they didn't, so I put the emergency brake on and hopped out. The car was on the steep driveway slope, and I walked up to ask them to please move their truck. I got up to the passenger-side window and looked at the guy, but before I could get the second word out of my mouth, I glanced back at my car, and saw it slowly rolling down the driveway! The door was open, and it quickly picked up speed. Manderson's and Rollins and DeVita's cars were in the driveway, plus a bunch of others, and all that I could think of was my car wrecking theirs (and mine!). I sprinted towards it, but the way I guess I had left the wheels, it started rolling and curving back into the front yard. This was certainly better than it rolling straight back into the driveway where all the cars were, but it was still going fast, and there were trees and the wall in the way! Amazingly, it went between two trees lining the driveway, in a really tight curve at the moment, and was going towards the front wall. This all happened in seconds, and I was still running, now curving, trying to catch up to hop in the car and pull the brake. It started slowing down in the level grass, and luckily and amazingly, it stopped just 1-2 feet away from the wall! I finally caught up to it right then, and hopped in, breathing a sigh of relief at my good luck for my dumb mistake! The emergency brake is not that old, but I just wasn't used to having it not in gear and having to pull it up harder for slopes. Needless to say, the construction guys were laughing their heads off, and they had moved their pickup truck. I drove by quickly, avoiding their glances. Phew!

Who the Hell is That Lady?!

I was leaving from Erin's house to go to Hollender's graduation party, so was zipping along pretty well on Route 80. Getting into New Jersey, I noticed this black car behind me, following along pretty well considering the speed I was going. Not many cars were hanging with me, and then when I was going to switch into the left lane, this lady in the black car was in my blind spot, and I had to swerve (just a tiny bit) to stay in my lane. After that move, this lady was on me like jam on toast. She wouldn't stay more than 1 car away from me, and kept up my speed no problem. This went on for like 50 miles, until it kind of started weirding me out. "Why would she care that I almost switched into her lane?," I was thinking. "It's not like I cut her off." This continued on and on, until finally I was close to Jun's godparents' house exit (I was gonna pick him up on my way to Hollender's), and the car was STILL tailing me. I took the exit off Rt. 80, and she followed me down the off-ramp. My car skidded on the wet pavement on the ramp because of the rain, and it looked like her's did, too! Then, she followed me past three more turns, and I was really starting to get freaked out. I was relieved that it just seemed like an old woman, and not a couple with a younger dude who could beat me up. But still, I wasn't looking forward to this old lady screamin' at me. Finally, I get to Jun's godparents' house, and pull up along the curb. The car comes up slowly, alongside me. I look over, almost terrified at this point... and it's ROLLINS! Turns out with his hair and my paranoia, I had flown by him and he had tried to keep up with me! And he'd tried to signal, but I didn't even notice. Turns out he had left Lewisburg (15-20 min. closer than Williamsport) a full 1/2 hour before me, and I had caught him around the Delaware Water Gap on Rt. 80. So anyway, thank goodness I didn't get chewed out by some lady. But Billy Rollins really freaked me out!

Senior Week: 'The 100 Beers' Story

So on about the 4th day of Senior Week, Grahme, Ferchak (Tony), & I decide (the night before) that between the 3 of us we're gonna drink 100 beers during the day. So, we start at 11ish (I think) and drink for a few hours at Erica Reed's place, but I forget who else was in the house. Then, very buzzed and probably at around 40+ beers, we biked back to our house (101 Dune Lane) on the beach, where I proceeded to throw everything possible into the pool. Grahme & I each accidentally broke the hard-plastic chais-lounge chairs. The next day, I thought we were only at that house for 20 min. before going to the other house (6 Canvasback), but turns out it was over an hour! I was apparently running around and screaming and going nuts. The one thing I remember is trying to get all the stuff I'd thrown in the pool, out of it. I was reaching from the edge, and I slipped on the wetness, and fell half-way into the pool. I kind of did a split, 1/2 in the water, 1/2 on the cement, and it HURT that ouchy-guy spot, luckily not the king-hurt-spot, but very near it. I had a apple-sized bruise down there the next day! Anyways, I tumbled into the water after falling, and was trying to recover, cursing my clumsiness and the pain I was feeling. After about 5 minutes wading around in the pool, I realized that my wallet and cell phone were still in my pockets! Needless to say, it took 3 days for my wallet to dry, and my cell phone was completely shot. The rest of the day is kind of a blur... (I'll probably post a funny little video shot by Hawley later)

The Curse of Montreal Trip #4

The full story of this will come later, but I just wanted to touch on some of the amazing and hilarious highlights from our Summer 2001 Montreal trip! Besides getting a speeding ticket, falling on my face, weirding out some girls, getting thrown out of a hotel, threatening security guards and city cops, breaking a car door, fighting amongst ourselves at a McDonald's and having 5 cop cars come to break it up, trashing a motel room, and losing my driver's license, we almost had some fun, too!

"The Radio Says You've Won!"

In mid-June, I was driving to Williamsport when I heard the Y100 radio station (Philadelphia) announce that Debbie Woolman from Burlington, NJ should call in the next 10 minutes, to get $100 plus a chance to stay in the Y100 beach house in Avalon for a week. I called my dad at his office and asked him where his secretary, also named Debbie Woolman (but about 40 years old!), lived. He said Burlington, so I told him to let her know that she had to call the radio station. She hadn't been listening to the radio, but called within 3 minutes of my dad going down the hall in his office and telling her. And won the $100! Talk about good timing!
